Moving Away from Alcohol

David had been living in hostel accommodation but was not willing or able to engage with any services. He was also vulnerable and in an environment that encouraged his drinking. One of our Personal Development Coordinator's (PDC) was gradually able to build trust with David and encourage him to seek help. This resulted in him attending Doctor's appointments (with his PDC present) to talk about things he had ignored in the past. He also started to go food shopping (something he rarely bothered to do previously) and talk to the hostel staff. Having completed a detox programme which was arranged with the support of his PDC, David has now been abstinent for three months. He has bought himself some new clothes, and now manages his money better, with an amount left-over at the end of each month. He is also exploring volunteering opportunities and his PDC attended a day of volunteering training with him recently.
